My homemade ranch dressing recipe is creamy, flavorful, and perfectly herby. It beats anything that you can buy at the store!

Homemade Ranch Dressing

If you love ranch dressing, you need to try this recipe! It’s made with simple ingredients and turns out incredibly creamy, fresh, and a little bit tangy.

Stop buying bottles of ranch from the store. This homemade dressing is the best, and it lasts in the fridge for a week! If you love cilantro, try my cilantro lime dressing, which uses this ranch as a base.

Key Ingredients

  • Sour Cream and Mayonnaise: This combo guarantees the best ranch dressing. The sour cream lightens up the mayonnaise, which can be heavy on its own. When I have homemade mayo in the fridge, I love using it to make this recipe.
  • Buttermilk or Milk: Buttermilk adds a tangy, creamy flavor that’s hard to beat. If you don’t have buttermilk, regular milk with a bit more lemon juice or vinegar also works. If you buy buttermilk for this recipe and have some leftover, try this buttermilk pancake recipe (I love them!).
  • Worcestershire: Not every ranch recipe calls for Worcestershire sauce, but let me tell you, it’s a game-changer in flavor. If you’re skeptical, taste the dressing, and then add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce to see how the flavor changes.
  • Lemon Juice or Vinegar: A splash of fresh lemon juice or white wine vinegar brightens the dressing in a way that store-bought bottles can’t compete with. It makes this dressing taste homemade.
  • Herbs: I love fresh dill, parsley, and chives for a classic ranch flavor, but dried herbs will work in a pinch. I have included tips for using dried herbs below the recipe.
  • Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper create that familiar ranch flavor. Dried onion and garlic powder taste better than fresh when making this ranch dressing.

Find the full recipe with measurements below.

How to Make the Ranch Dressing

Tip 1: Two ways to make it. This ranch is so simple to make at home. I know once you try it, you’ll be making it on repeat. You have two choices for making it:

  • By hand: Finely chop all your fresh herbs, then stir them into the other ranch dressing ingredients. Just a few seconds of stirring turns them into a creamy and delicious sauce.
  • Use a blender: The quickest way to make this recipe is to add all the ingredients to a blender, hit go, and wait 30 seconds. A food processor works, too!
Mixing ranch dressing ingredients together with fresh herbs

Tip 2: Make it ahead of time. Making homemade dressing every night of the week is not ideal. That’s why I am happy to say that this one lasts in the fridge for a week. The green of the herbs may dull slightly, but not much, and the dressing will still taste great.

Serving Suggestions

I can’t wait for you to make this dressing. I’m already using it for everything. It’s excellent for all my salads (especially this taco salad recipe), as a dip for fresh vegetables like celery, carrots, and broccoli, drizzled over roasted veggies, and served next to French fries or sweet potato fries.

It’s also amazing with anything with buffalo sauce, like buffalo chicken wings or these buffalo cauliflower wings. Happy cooking!

Ranch Dressing (Better than Store-Bought)

  • PREP
  • TOTAL

This homemade ranch dressing is extra creamy and perfect for tossing with salad or as a dipping sauce. We love using fresh herbs, but you can use dried herbs. See the tips section below for suggested amounts. I love buttermilk ranch dressing, so we use buttermilk to make this, but if you do not have any, regular milk still makes a delicious dressing. You will lose a little bit of tang, so consider adding a bit more lemon to make up for it. For another version of this, try our cilantro lime dressing (aka cilantro ranch).

Makes about 2 cups

Watch Us Make the Recipe

You Will Need

½ cup plus 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, try homemade mayonnaise (140g)

½ cup sour cream (113g)

½ cup buttermilk or regular milk (120ml)

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or white wine vinegar

1 to 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, to taste

¼ cup fresh dill, finely chopped

¼ cup parsley, finely chopped

¼ cup fresh chives, finely chopped

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon fine sea salt, plus more to taste

¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Directions

1Combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce in a medium bowl and stir until well blended and creamy.

2Stir in the herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Taste and then adjust with another teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce or salt as needed. We love two teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, but it has a strong flavor, so add this to your taste.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Storing: Store in an airtight container (like a jar), in the refrigerator for up to a week. You might lose some color and flavor from the fresh herbs the longer the dressing sits in the fridge.
  • Substituting dried herb: Dried herbs taste stronger than fresh, so use a third of the amount of fresh herbs suggested. You will need: 2 teaspoons each of dried dill, dried parsley, and dried chives.
  • Lighter dressing: For a lighter dressing with fewer calories, you can swap the mayonnaise for light mayo and the sour cream for plain Greek yogurt. The final flavor will be less rich and creamy, but still delicious.
  • Spicy ranch: Stir in finely minced jalapeño peppers (about 1 tablespoon). Or stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of gochujang or sriracha. Try minced cowboy candy (pickled jalapeños) for a sweet and spicy ranch.

Homemade Honey Mustard Dressing Recipe https://recipecoast.com/homemade-honey-mustard-dressing-recipe/ Sat, 13 Jun 2026 21:38:34 +0000 https://recipecoast.com/homemade-honey-mustard-dressing-recipe/

My family loves this sweet and tangy honey mustard dressing recipe. It’s made with simple ingredients and tastes way better than store-bought.

Homemade Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

This recipe is incredibly simple to make, and you probably already have everything you need to make it in your kitchen. I love it for salads, but this dressing has so many uses. Many of our readers use it as a marinade for chicken. It works wonders as a dressing for grain bowls and we love brushing it onto salmon before baking in the oven.

I love that this salad dressing uses real ingredients and does not call for mayonnaise. For a creamier sauce that’s perfect for dipping, see our creamy honey mustard sauce. If you are looking for a marinade, we both love this honey mustard chicken.

Key Ingredients

  • Mustard: I use creamy Dijon, but whole grain or regular yellow mustard will work.
  • Honey: I love using local raw honey (it tastes so good). If you’d like a honey-free option, try maple syrup!
  • Apple cider vinegar: I love using apple cider vinegar with “the mother” left in the bottle (like Braggs) and find it has the best flavor.
  • Olive oil: Makes our dressing silky and luxurious. It also adds flavor. Avocado oil is a good alternative.
  • Fresh lemon juice: Optional, but I highly recommend it. The lemon makes the dressing pop. I add the juice from one or two lemon wedges.

Find the full recipe with measurements below.

How to Make Honey Mustard Dressing

Tip 1: Whisk or shake until emulsified. Just a few seconds of whisking turns the dressing into a single emulsified mixture. It is amazing what happens when you whisk the mustard with olive oil and vinegar. You can also add all of the ingredients to a mason jar and shake.

Tip 2: Make it extra creamy. As written, this is a vinaigrette-style dressing and, honestly, is pretty creamy already. For a thicker even creamier dressing, whisk in a little sour cream or plain yogurt.

Serving Suggestions

Of all the salad dressing recipes on Inspired Taste, this one is the most versatile. We love drizzling it over roasted vegetables. It’s especially good with roasted Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, sweet bell peppers, and broccoli.

You can even marinate chicken, fish, and pork in this dressing. You can also use it as a sauce for serving with pork chops or grilled chicken.

Homemade Honey Mustard Dressing

This delicious, sweet, and tangy honey mustard dressing is easy to make and lasts up to three weeks in the fridge. Use for salads and as a dipping sauce.

Makes 1 cup

Watch Us Make the Recipe

You Will Need

1/4 cup (65g) Dijon mustard

3 tablespoons (65g) honey or more to taste

3 tablespoons (45ml) apple cider vinegar or more to taste

1/4 cup (60ml) extra virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, optional

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Directions

1Combine the mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and the black pepper and whisk until well blended and creamy.

2Whisk in the oil, and then taste the dressing. Adjust with additional salt, vinegar, or honey. I enjoy my dressing to taste more tart, so I typically add an extra tablespoon of vinegar.

3Alternatively, add all ingredients to a medium mason jar, secure the lid, and shake until blended.

4Keep tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Storing: Honey mustard dressing lasts for 3 weeks when stored in the fridge. We love keeping it in a glass mason jar so that we can shake it before adding it to salads or using it as a dipping sauce.
  • Vegan substitution: Substitute the honey for pure maple syrup.

The Best Tahini Dressing Recipe https://recipecoast.com/the-best-tahini-dressing-recipe/ Wed, 10 Jun 2026 21:35:19 +0000 https://recipecoast.com/the-best-tahini-dressing-recipe/

This lemon garlic tahini dressing recipe is ready in minutes! It’s creamy, flavorful, and truly one of the best salad dressing recipes we’ve ever shared.

Homemade Tahini Dressing

Of all the salad dressings we have shared, this dressing is the one you will most likely find in our fridge. (We that and this lemon vinaigrette.) This dressing is similar to our creamy tahini sauce but with more lemon juice, maple syrup, and toasted sesame oil to make it extra delicious.

It is perfectly creamy and made without dairy or mayo! I love it with a fresh green salad and drizzled over cooked grains like quinoa. It’s a total keeper! I especially love it for our tahini lemon quinoa bowls.

Key Ingredients

  • Tahini: The dairy-free creamy base of our dressing. I love using my tahini recipe to make homemade tahini, but you can easily substitute store-bought tahini in the recipe below.
  • Fresh garlic and lemon juice: Lemon + garlic + tahini is a classic combination. I love it!
  • Olive oil: Thins out the tahini and adds richness.
  • Maple syrup: I add some maple syrup to sweeten the dressing. If you are not vegan, you can substitute it with honey or use agave nectar.
  • Toasted sesame oil: This is my secret ingredient for the best dressings and sauces! It adds a nutty flavor that complements the tahini so well.
  • Smoked paprika: I love a little smoked paprika. It really makes this dressing pop and adds a hint of smokiness.

Find the full recipe with measurements below.

How to Make Our Favorite Tahini Dressing

Tip 1: Whisk until creamy. Whisk everything together first. The tahini may thicken at first, but don’t worry, that’s normal! As you gradually whisk in the water and other ingredients, it will loosen up and transform into a smooth, creamy dressing.

Whisking the tahini dressing ingredients together in a bowl

Tip 2: Use homemade tahini. To make this dressing extra special, start with homemade tahini. We first started making our tahini when we shared this hummus recipe. Since then, we’ve always preferred homemade tahini over store-bought.

Tip 3: Storing it. This dressing keeps well for up to a week in the fridge. As it sits, it may thicken slightly or separate (both are totally normal). Before using, give it a good stir or whisk in a splash of water to loosen it back up until it’s smooth and pourable again.

My Favorite Ways to Use It

Use this simple dressing on just about anything. It’s my go-to salad dressing and works well with fresh greens like kale, romaine, and baby lettuce. It’s perfect for crunchier salads with bell peppers, carrots, and cucumber.

Make this simple bean salad, but use this dressing instead. You can toss it with cooked or canned beans (here’s how to cook chickpeas). Or drizzle over cooked grains like our fluffy quinoa. I also love spooning it over warm roasted veggies or over a salad topped with homemade falafel.

Homemade Tahini Dressing

The Best Tahini Dressing

Of all the salad dressing recipes we have shared on Inspired Taste, this tahini-based dressing is the one you will most likely find in our fridge. It’s creamy, flavorful, and works drizzled over just about anything. Think hearty salads, grain bowls, roasted veggies, and even as a sauce for meats or seafood.

Makes 1/2 cup

Watch Us Make the Recipe

You Will Need

1/4 cup (60ml) well-stirred tahini, try homemade tahini

1 small garlic clove, grated or finely minced

3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

3 tablespoons cold water, more if needed

Directions

1Whisk everything but the water in a small bowl. Don’t worry if the mixture seems clumpy at first. The dressing will relax once you whisk it in the water, making it creamy.

2Add three tablespoons of cold water, and then whisk until creamy. For a thinner consistency, add a little more water.

3Season to taste with additional lemon juice or salt.

Adam and Joanne’s Tips

  • Best Served With: Summer entertaining, potlucks, picnics, casual summer dinners

I first had cold spaghetti pasta salad at a friend’s backyard BBQ in the US, and I was immediately hooked. There’s something about slurping tender spaghetti coated in a tangy, garlicky dressing that just hits different than other pasta salads. But here’s the thing—most versions rely on bottled Italian dressing and seasoning packets, which gets the job done but can taste a little flat and overly processed. This homemade version achieves that same nostalgic, addictive flavor from scratch using pantry spices, good olive oil, and a few smart upgrades. You get the bright, savory, slightly sweet profile you’re craving, but with so much more depth and balance.

It’s especially perfect for those summer days when you want something cold, refreshing, and satisfying—something that actually tastes good the next day, which is honestly half the appeal for potlucks and entertaining. Once you make your own dressing, you’ll never look back.

What You’ll Need

Here is what you’ll need for this spaghetti pasta salad recipe. Find the full measurements in the recipe card below.

For the Salad:

  • Spaghetti (broken in half)—the star of the show; there’s something special about the way spaghetti strands take on dressing compared to other pasta shapes
  • Cucumber (seeded and diced)—adds crisp, refreshing crunch
  • Red bell pepper/capsicum (finely diced)—sweet, slightly tangy flavor and bright color
  • Cherry tomatoes (halved)—juicy, bright, and fresh
  • Red onion (finely minced)—adds bite and savory depth without overpowering
  • Sliced olives—briny punch that pulls everything together; you can use black, Kalamata, or a mix
  • Pepperoncini (finely minced)—delivers a gentle heat and vinegary tang; Golden Greek peppers can also be used
  • Shredded Asiago cheese —milder, slightly creamy bite throughout the salad; Manchego or Comté cheese are also great options
  • Finely grated Parmesan—melts into the dressing to help emulsify it while adding salty, savory depth. If you don’t have Asiago or other slightly softer aged cheeses, just add more Parmesan
  • Fresh basil (thinly sliced)—bright, herbaceous finishing touch that keeps the salad feeling fresh

For the Dressing:

  • Olive oil (good quality)—the base; good oil makes a real difference in flavor
  • Red wine vinegar—provides acidity and tang
  • Lemon juice—extra brightness and helps balance the sweetness
  • Sugar—rounds out the flavors; don’t skip this
  • Kosher salt—brings everything into focus
  • Dried oregano, basil, and parsley—these dried herbs replace the seasoning packet and give you control over flavor depth
  • Garlic powder and onion powder—savory umami without the harshness of fresh
  • Celery seed—adds an unexpected herbal note that blooms as it sits, but can be left out
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)—gentle heat without taking over
  • Dijon mustard—helps emulsify the dressing and adds subtle depth
  • Finely grated Parmesan—helps the dressing emulsify and cling to the noodles
  • Pepperoncini brine—the secret ingredient that ties everything together

Recipe Tips

  • About that long ingredient list: At first glance, the dressing might look intimidating, but it’s mostly dried herbs and pantry staples you likely already have. They come together in just a couple of minutes. This homemade version replaces both the bottled dressing and the seasoning packet, giving you the same layered flavor (tangy, savory, well-balanced), but without the preservatives and fillers. It’s worth it.
  • Why pepperoncini two ways? The brine adds acid and salt; the minced pepperoncini add gentle heat without overpowering everything. Together, they’re the secret to that addictive tang.
  • Why both Asiago and Parmesan? The finely grated Parmesan melts into the dressing, helping to emulsify it while adding salty, savory depth. The Asiago is added in larger shreds, bringing a milder, slightly creamy bite throughout the salad. You can also use Manchego or Comte cheeses. You can use all Parmesan if you prefer, but the combination adds nice balance of flavor and texture.
  • Flexible vegetables: This recipe is beautifully flexible. The base uses crisp, fresh vegetables for contrast, but you can swap or add based on what you have on hand or what’s in season. Think crunchy (celery, radishes, carrots), juicy (zucchini, green beans, corn), briny (artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, capers), or roasted (roasted red peppers, grilled zucchini, roasted cherry tomatoes).
  • Make-ahead tip: You can prep everything the day before—chop vegetables, make the dressing, cook and chill the pasta. Just hold back the fresh basil until just before serving so it stays vibrant. Add a drizzle of olive oil or a splash of vinegar before serving if the salad looks a little dry.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. The pasta will absorb the dressing as it sits, which is normal—just refresh it with a bit more olive oil or a splash of red wine vinegar or pepperoncini brine before serving. Keep it chilled (it shouldn’t sit out for more than about 2 hours). Don’t freeze—the vegetables lose their texture, and the dressing separates.

This vibrant cold spaghetti pasta salad features a tangy, garlicky homemade dressing that coats every noodle. Fresh, bright, and perfect for summer entertaining—it actually tastes better the next day. Find step-by-step photos below and more recipe tips above.

For the Salad:

  • 12 oz spaghetti, broken in half 340 grams
  • 1 cucumber seeded and diced, English/Telegraph is best as has fewer seeds
  • 1 red bell pepper capsicum, finely diced, or ½ red and ½ green pepper
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved 150 grams
  • cup red onion, finely minced 40 grams
  • ⅓–½ cup sliced olives (black, Kalamata, or mixed) 50–75 grams
  • 1–2 tablespoons pepperoncini, very finely minced 8–16 grams
  • ½ cup shredded Asiago 50 grams
  • ¼ cup finely grated Parmesan 25 grams
  • ½ cup fresh basil, thinly sliced 12 grams
  • Cook spaghetti in well-salted water until just al dente. Drain and rinse briefly under cold water (or dunk into iced water) to stop cooking. Shake off excess water thoroughly.

  • While the pasta cools, whisk all dressing ingredients together until emulsified. Taste it—it should be bright, savory, slightly sweet, and assertive. Let it sit 5 minutes, then taste again (the heat and celery seed will bloom and become more noticeable).

  • Transfer the cooled pasta to a large bowl and toss with about ⅔ of the dressing while the pasta is cool but not ice-cold. Let it absorb for 5–10 minutes.

  • Add cucumber, bell pepper, tomatoes, red onion, olives, and minced pepperoncini. Toss gently.

  • Fold in Asiago, Parmesan, and fresh basil. Add the remaining dressing as needed; you may not need it all.

  • Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Before serving, taste and adjust with a splash of vinegar, extra olive oil, or a pinch of salt if needed.

  • Important Ingredient Tips: Use good-quality olive oil, it really shines in the dressing. If your grocery store has a deli counter, look for mixed olives, which are great for getting a small quantity of colorful, varied olives without buying a whole jar.
  • Key Recipe Tips: The dressing ingredient list looks long, but it uses pantry staples. The combination of dried herbs, spices, Parmesan, and pepperoncini brine replaces bottled dressing and seasoning packets. Pepperoncini works two ways: the brine adds acid and salt; the minced peppers add gentle heat. Asiago and Parmesan together create better texture and flavor balance than using just one cheese.
  • Storage Tips: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days. The pasta will absorb the dressing as it sits, which is normal. Refresh before serving with a bit of olive oil or a splash of vinegar. Keep chilled and don’t leave at room temperature for more than 2 hours (less on very warm days).
  • Make-Ahead Tips: Prep all vegetables and make the dressing the day before. Cook and chill the pasta ahead. Just hold back the fresh basil until just before serving so it stays vibrant and bright.
  • Can I use regular pasta instead of spaghetti? Yes, though spaghetti really is special here—the way it slurps and the noodles take on the dressing is part of the appeal. Linguine would be a good substitute.
  • Is this vegan? Not as written (it has cheese), but you could omit or replace the cheeses with vegan alternatives.
  • Can I make this ahead for a potluck? Absolutely! Make it the day before, store it covered in the fridge, and bring it in an airtight container. Add fresh basil and a refreshing drizzle of olive oil right before serving.
  • Why is my salad dry the next day? The pasta absorbs the dressing—it’s normal! Just toss with a bit more olive oil or a splash of vinegar before serving.

How To Make Cold Spaghetti Pasta Salad

Find the full recipe and nutritional information below. Here are some handy step-by-step photos for making this cold spaghetti pasta salad.

  • Cook spaghetti in well-salted water until just al dente. Don’t overcook—you want it to have a little bite because it will soften as it sits.
  • Drain and rinse briefly under cold water (or dunk into iced water) to stop the cooking. Shake off excess water thoroughly so the dressing clings properly.
  • While the pasta cools, whisk all dressing ingredients together until emulsified. Taste it. It should be bright, savory, slightly sweet, and assertive. Let it sit for 5 minutes—the heat and celery seed will bloom and become more noticeable. Taste again and adjust as needed.
  • Transfer the cooled pasta to a large bowl and toss with about ⅔ of the dressing while the pasta is cool but not ice-cold. This helps it absorb the flavors properly. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
  • Add the cucumber, bell pepper, tomatoes, red onion, olives, and minced pepperoncini. Toss gently so you don’t break anything up.
  • Fold in the Asiago, Parmesan, and fresh basil. Add the remaining dressing as needed—you may not need it all, and it’s easier to add more than to take away.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Before serving, taste and adjust with a splash of vinegar, extra olive oil, or a pinch of salt if needed. The flavors meld beautifully as it sits.

Serving Suggestions

Honestly, this is one of those recipes that works for just about every occasion. Bring it to potlucks and picnics—it travels beautifully and tastes even better the next day. Serve it at summer BBQs alongside grilled meats and vegetables, or make it a main dish on a warm evening when you don’t feel like cooking. It’s also perfect for meal prep; divide it into containers and grab it for a cold, satisfying lunch. Pair it with crusty bread, a crisp white wine, or a cold beer. The fresh, tangy flavors work well with just about anything summery.
